Fake support and hacked accounts: how to protect your restaurant's WhatsApp and social media

If your delivery runs on WhatsApp and Instagram, your account is your point of sale. How the scam usually works

• Fake support: someone poses as the WhatsApp/Instagram/Meta team claiming there's a "problem with your account."
• Code request: they trick you into sharing the verification code (SMS) — that's the key to your account.
• Phishing link: a "verification" or "badge" that steals your login and password.
• Urgency: "your account will be deleted in 24h" to make you act without thinking.

Warning signs

• Anyone asking for your verification code — never share it.
• Urgency and threats of blocking/deletion.
• A link asking for login outside the official app.
• A "support" message via DM or WhatsApp (real support doesn't work that way).

How to shield your accounts

• Enable two-step verification on WhatsApp and Instagram. It's the most important lock.
• Never share a verification code with anyone — not even "support."
• Use strong, unique passwords and a protected recovery email.
• Be wary of urgency: stop and verify through official channels.

The bigger risk: depending on a single account
